Areas include spelling, comprehension, development of listening skills, critical thinking, writing and vocabulary. Novels include: The Cricket in Times Square, The Incredible Journey, Anne of Green Gables, A Winkle in Time, To Kill A Mockingbird and many, many more.
Write Shop ...................... 909/989.5576
WriteShop focuses on teaching the elements of style WriteShop I works best for typical students in grades 6-10. After its completion, they may advance to WriteShop II. Students learn to develop strong paragraphs through choosing vivid, descriptive words and using sentence variations. They first learn to write descriptive paragraphs before moving on to informative, narrative, and persuasive writing. Skill Builders reinforce new concepts, which students then apply to their current compositions. While not a grammar or spelling program, WriteShop encourages growth and awareness in both of these areas.
Best Books
Help Your Child Learn to Read by Betty Root, 1989, Usborne Books.
Excellent resource for PreK-grade 3! I used this with my own son - it was all we used (or needed) besides a ton of library books!
Woe Is I: The Grammarphobe's Guide to Better English in Plain English by Patricia T. O'Conner, 1996, Grosset/Putnam Books.
I love this book! It is one of the three most important book that I use when writing - next to a dictionary and thesaurus. I ordered my copy of this book from the Quality Paperback Book Club (QPBC), but it is available in retail and online stores.
