The Bookhandler .........619/472.0471
3597 Lomacitas Lane, Bonita, CA 91902

Their catalog is billed as "Resources for California Schools & Libraries." Let's not hold it against them that they didn't include homeschoolers on their list! Because they have an excellent selection of social studies resources that us home educators won't want to miss!! Primarily covering California and U.S. history, The Book Handler has pulled together a vast and unique array of materials from numerous publishers. Their catalog also provides (on each page, no less! no more flipping back and forth!) a simple code indicating those titles that are either a primary resource, an easy-to-read or if it is in a journal format.

Pacific View Press 415/285.8538 P.O. Box 2657, Berkeley, CA 94702
A small press with only a few titles, but the ones they have are exceptional!! Thoroughly researched books on celebrating festivals in China, the Philippines and Mexico; as well as one of Chinese writing for children! My favourite one is a richly illustrated and fact-filled book called, "Made In China: Ideas and Inventions from Ancient China" by Suzanne Williams.

Shen's Books 800/456.6660 40951 Fremont Blvd., Fremont, CA 94538

Their keystone is fables and folk tales, but they also have many other titles covering everything from adoption to food. Lots of foreign language favourites (including Caldecott Books).
